McHugh & Shaw Greenhouse Gas Scholarship
We are offering a Greenhouse Gas Scholarship to a university student in Aotearoa New Zealand who is aspiring to work in the sustainability field and has a keen interest in carbon measurement and management. The scholarship includes the opportunity to attend a two-day online course by Carbon and Energy Professionals New Zealand (CEP) in order to learn about the technicalities of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory development, followed by a stint of paid work experience in the carbon auditing sector at McHugh & Shaw.
Scholarship Programme
We will pay your fees to attend CEP’s Preparing a GHG Inventory Training programme (online), valued over NZ$1,600 on 12th and 13th August 2025.
You will get the opportunity to gain paid work experience in carbon auditing during the university holidays (conditions to be discussed with the successful applicant).
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or (preferably) postgraduate degree at a New Zealand university in an environmental/climate-related degree OR finance/accounting with evidence of strong environmental/climate interest (eg. elected courses in the field) at the closing date of the application.
Applicants must be available and have the means (computer and internet access) to attend the online course on 12th and 13th August 2025 (9.30am - 2.30pm each day).

Terms & Conditions
Our decision is final and will not be discussed further.
The scholarship is not transferable and is not exchangeable for cash.
Dates, length, hours, and the conditions of the work experience will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis with the successful applicant (note: this can be fully remote). We do not guarantee a minimum number of hours. The type of work will be dependent on the skills and experiences of the recipient of the scholarship.
Work experience will be paid at the at-the-time current living wage.
The successful applicant agrees to be featured in our social media and online communications, including quote(s) and photos.
Completing the work experience is no guarantee of any ongoing or future employment with McHugh & Shaw.
M&S expects to receive at least 72 hours notice if the successful applicant cannot attend the course.
If less than 72 hours, or no notice has been given, then the offer of work experience will be withdrawn.
