McHugh & Shaw Greenhouse Gas Scholarship

We are offering a Greenhouse Gas Scholarship to a university student in Aotearoa New Zealand who is aspiring to work in the sustainability field and has a keen interest in carbon measurement and management. The scholarship includes the opportunity to attend a two-day online course by Carbon and Energy Professionals New Zealand (CEP) in order to learn about the technicalities of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory development, followed a sustainability course provided by Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand.

Scholarship Programme

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or (preferably) postgraduate degree at a New Zealand university in an environmental/climate-related degree OR finance/accounting with evidence of strong environmental/climate interest (eg. elected courses in the field) at the closing date of the application. 

  • Applicants must be available and have the means (computer and internet access) to attend the online course on 22nd and 24th September 2026 (9.30am - 2.30pm each day). 

Applications

  • Applications open Monday 24 August 2026 and close Friday 11 September (COB).

  • Please send a CV and cover letter to info@mchugh-shaw.co.nz and include the following information: 

    • Name, location, email and phone.

    • University and degree in which you are currently enrolled, including any relevant courses and papers completed that include climate change, greenhouse gas measurement or mitigation, or financed emissions.

    • Where do you see yourself and your career in the next 5-10 years?

    • Why would you like to attend the GHG Inventory Training?

    • In your opinion what is the role of carbon measurement in addressing climate change? 

Terms & Conditions

  • Our decision is final and will not be discussed further.  

  • The scholarship is not transferable and is not exchangeable for cash.  

  • The successful applicant agrees to be featured in our social media and online communications, including quote(s) and photos.   

  • Receiving the scholarship is no guarantee of any ongoing or future employment with McHugh & Shaw.

  • M&S expects to receive at least 72 hours notice if the successful applicant cannot attend the CEP course.

  • If less than 72 hours, or no notice has been given, then the offer of the second CCANZ course will be withdrawn.
