Our Sustainability Journey
Sustainability is at the heart of how we operate and the services we provide.
Our vision is that businesses feel confident in making credible sustainability claims and can trust the sustainability claims made by their partners and suppliers. Ultimately, greenwashing is eliminated.
Our mission is to provide high-quality sustainability assurance services (audits) for both public and private organisations in both the voluntary and compliance markets that underpin sustainability claims.
We believe assurance services provide independent confirmation of the accuracy of sustainability claims. It is critical that all organisations reduce the impact of their services and products for the planet and future generations.
At McHugh & Shaw we are committed to do good for our people, our communities, and our planet.
We are continually learning about how to reduce our own footprint on this planet and make a positive impact on the communities we operate in. We try to keep track of our impact (both positive and negative) and have taken a number of steps to address this.

Our Footprint
Every year, we measure and offset 120% of our carbon footprint with certified carbon credits. These are sourced from projects that grow and protect forests in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and help to deliver climate resilience, waterways protection, erosion control, biodiversity conservation and community economic development. We do this because we are passionate about conservation, biodiversity and the income generated for landowners, but we do not view credits as environmental compensation for our emissions.
In FY23 our carbon emissions were 9.49tCO2e, which derived entirely from scope 3 emissions. Learn more about emissions and how we measure them in this article.

Our Commitment
The purpose of McHugh & Shaw is to do business whilst having an overall positive impact on the environment and the communities we operate in. We are committed to doing business for good, so we are donating 1% of our revenue to Christchurch charity Upstream and a further 1% to Garden to Table via the One Percent Collective.
